DAY 120 - A FIGHT WORTH FIGHTING
ANDREW MATRONE, YA MINISTRY LEAD
“Fight the good fight of faith.” 1 Timothy 6:12
Do you ever feel like you’re just not very good at this Christian thing? I mean you obviously love God, you want to follow him, but you always seem to fall back into those same sin patterns or you fail to get into your word and pray or you just seem to lack the motivation to engage in your relationship with Him. I can’t tell you how many times in my life I have felt this. And if I’m being REALLY honest, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve felt this in the past 6 months of my life!
I love Jesus, I really do. I have committed my life to serving him and following his ways to the best of my ability, but I go through seasons (just as you do) where I feel like I’m falling short and not living up to the man that God has called me to be.
What a lot of us do, when we get into seasons like this, is instead of pushing through, we tend to shrink back or give in and usually the result of that is feeling even further from God! Maybe this is you right now.
The verse up top (1 Timothy 6:12), Paul, is writing to a young pastor by the name of Timothy. Timothy is living in a time (much like us) where there is a ton of evil and corruption taking place. It’s a time where many people had wandered from the faith and Paul writes to Timothy in verse 11 & 12 this... “But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith.”
Paul is saying that there are a lot of things going against you… a lot of things bidding for your attention… a lot of noise… a lot of potential for you to wander from the faith, BUT flee from it, stand your ground, don’t give in… FIGHT.
I know you’ve given into some things in this season… I know your relationship with God doesn’t look how you think it should look… I know you’ve had a lot of disappointments recently, but can I encourage you to stay in the fight? Can I encourage you to not give in or give up? Can I encourage you to lean in and engage with God like maybe never before?
A relationship with God is not easier, but it’s better. A relationship with God not only has a temporal value, but an eternal value. Our hope is not in this world… Our hope is not in other people or even ourselves. Our hope is in the Lord and because of that he gives us the strength to continue to fight this good fight of faith even when the odds are stacked against us.
This fight is a fight worth fighting.
Praying for you today!
