DAY 5 - HELD TOGETHER

Erin Grim, Lakewood Campus Operations Lead

“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17 ESV

Hey YA! My name is Erin, I’m coming at you from the quarantined Grim household! Ezra and Connor say hi! l love being a part of this community. Seriously, Connor and I met while being involved with YA, our best friendships were formed here, and we love serving all of you. YA takes up some of the most special real estate in our hearts!

I was born and raised in Colorado, in Lakewood, actually. My parents still live in the house I grew up in only a couple of blocks from the Lakewood Campus. Usually, when people say they are a native, it’s with great pride and a little bit of judgment on those of you that have moved here from out of state (I’m only half kidding). While I do love where I live, I am most definitely more of a beach girl than a mountain girl! Can I get an amen?

I just love the sun! I really do. My mom told me that when I was a toddler, I’d take a blanket outside just to nap in the sun. I wish it was sunny and 85 degrees 365 days a year, like today for example (well, at least on the day I’m writing this). Every morning Connor and I lovingly discuss who gets to take our dog out on a walk, but on mornings like this, I gladly volunteer so that I can just bask in the sun for a moment before our hectic day gets started. With all the recent craziness, walks have become necessary for my sanity!

It’s funny how quickly we’ve been able to identify what we are thankful for and see it more clearly than ever before. I felt the Lord remind me of this verse in Colossians this morning out on my walk, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”  Even in this craziness, Jesus holds all of creation together. While people, the economy and you-name-it are uncertain, creation is held together! That’s incredible! He is holding the sun together for my enjoyment and for His glory (and I’m sure for a million other nerdy, scientific reasons). If he can hold the sun up, he can hold you together too.

Let the truth of the Word of God give you peace and comfort today! Remember, you don’t have to hold it all...He holds it. It’s better this way! When you feel overwhelmed and uncertain, go for a walk. Let the sun hit your face and be reminded that Jesus is before all things and in Him, all things are held together - the sun, the moon, the mountains, your finances, your relationships, your fears, everything is held together by Him.
