DAY 89 - YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

CONNOR GRIM, YA ASSOCIATE PASTOR & VOLUNTEER TEAM LEAD

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Luke 6:45

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” Proverbs 4:23

There’s a famous saying that I’m sure everyone who reads this will be familiar with: “You are what you eat!”

It comes from the health and fitness industry and is illustrating the basic principle that what you choose to put in your body will determine what you get out of your body. Your weight, your health, your ability to perform, etc. If you load your body up with junk, you’ll probably feel tired, sluggish, unmotivated...you know...like junk.

On the other hand, if you prioritize fueling your body with the right things, it will begin to look and feel the way you want it to. I think the same goes for our inner life as followers of Jesus.

In both Luke and Proverbs, we see a principle that is scattered throughout the Bible: The product of your life is a result of what you’re feeding it. What you’re allowing into your heart; what you watch, what you listen to, what you read, will ultimately determine what comes out of your heart.

If you’re filling your heart with faith by reading God’s word, prayer, sermons, and worship, then you can expect faith to be what comes out. If you find yourself trapped in a cycle of cynicism or pessimism, or you feel angry or confused, why not examine what you’re allowing into your life. You may find that all it takes is a little change to begin to see new results in your life.
