DAY 94 - IMMEASURABLY MORE

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…”

Ephesians 3:20

Welcome to one of the most famous verses in the bible. Ephesians 3:20 is notorious for being one of those verses people: Tattoo on their wrists, have as a license plate, or have shellacked on their walls right under “live, love, laugh.” The sentiment is nice, encouraging people that God is able to do more than they could ever think. However I think we often misunderstand why this verse is so rightfully famous.

First I want to address the obvious and the reality that this verse is presenting. Anything you could possibly ask God, anything you could ever possibly imagine, God is able to do more. And not just a little bit more. Immeasurably more. We could just stop right there and that would be enough to challenge and shift your entire perspective on how powerful your prayers are and how significant the potential is on your life.

But, I think as we examine this verse a little more, we may be missing what is at the heart of it.

When I first read this I think: GAME ON! Listen, I can think and ask for a lot of things. Money, motorcycles (my current obsession), shoes, homes….I think you’re getting the picture. And if that’s the mindset going into this then logically we think: “If I can imagine that 15mil mansion on the beach….God can do even better!!!”

But what if God wanted to do more THROUGH you than He wanted to do FOR you. Don’t get me wrong, God is a good God who loves doing things FOR His kids. The bible repeatedly tells us to ask God to do things FOR us and reassures us that He hears us and moves on our behalf. But what if we shifted the angle that we see this verse a little and try to imagine the more that God could do THROUGH us.

What would our lives look like if we didn’t just ask for things?

What would our lives look like if our most consistent prayer was for God to move through us?

What could God accomplish through you if you believed Him for immeasurably more?
