HANG UP (THE CALL) AND HANG OUT (VIRTUALLY)

KEATON TUCKER, YA GROUPS TEAM LEAD

Staying connected to friends is difficult when you’re literally not allowed to go see them. I’m sure you’ve made plenty of phone calls, sent hundreds of texts and DMs, but if you’re like me, you’re starting to realize there is only so much to talk about when everyone is the world is doing nothing but staying at home. So to help, we have come up with some ways to stay connected to your crew that are a lot more fun and interactive than your basic call.

Video Chit-Chat

ZOOM

No, not the 1990’s PBS educational show, but the 2020 COVID Connector. Zoom is “Simplified video conferencing and messaging across any device.” So even the Androids out there can stay connected…

FACETIME

Classic tried and true for all the iPhone users out there. If you have an Android, repent…

SKYPE

Skype was the OG of virtual meeting spaces, so you can trust them. Easy video meetings with no sign ups or downloads #Simple.

GOOGLE HANGOUTS

Let’s be real, Google does everything and probably knows more about me than my family does. Embrace the creeping and give the homies a call.

Games on games on games on games

BOARD GAMES

Do you and your friends have the same board game lying around? Play through Zoom or another app listed above. [You can also download games like Ticket to Ride on your phone and just play together remotely.]

GAME PIGEON

If you have an iPhone, download Game Pigeon and challenge your friends to different games in iMessage. If you have an Android, again, repent...

HOUSE PARTY

No, don’t invite people over, but this tool combines video hangouts and game time. Simple to use and acceptable for all phones and devices.

JACKBOX GAMES

These games you can play on your phone or on a computer. Video chat and get everyone together, then log in using the browser on your phone, and play each other in different games. Winner gets bragging rights.

Group Hangout & Date Ideas

TOUR THE LOUVRE

That’s right, you can take a virtual tour of the world-famous Louvre museum in Paris! Have everyone hop on a video chat, share a screen, and take a group stroll around the museum. (BTW, this is the museum where the Mona Lisa is kept… #cultured)

TRIVIA NIGHT

One of our group leaders hosted a trivia night and this is how she did it: “We had 2 people hosting by reading the questions, collecting the answers, and keeping track of score. Everyone broke into teams, communicated through group text messages, and then one person would submit answer their team’s answer through a shared Google Doc. It was a BLAST!!!”

NETFLIX & CHILL [FROM AFAR]

We have the technology to now watch a movie or show together. You can each watch it on your own screens and have a chat room to talk about all the twists and turns #TIGERKING

UBER DATES

Gents, order some Uber Eats for you and your gal, have them delivered at the same time, hop on that video call, and enjoy that fine dining experience.

That’s what we got for now. Let us know what you’re doing to stay connected with your friends in the comments below, and tag us in your next hang out [@redrocksya]
