DAY 54 - YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

Remember all of those little quips and questions your parents would say to you when you were younger? “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” “Don’t cry over spilled milk,” “If all of your friends jumped off a cliff, would you?” and of course the infamous “It’s fine to eat; 5-second rule.”

Over the past month, I’ve been thinking of updating an old one: “If you are what you eat, then you believe what you see and read.” And if that one doesn’t work for you, we got a Bible for you:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8

Now as Christians, we must live in this world, however, we are also called to be different from the world. This means that we must act differently, speak differently, and think differently. With our thought life, I’m not advocating that we shut off from the world and live in a different universe altogether, but I am advocating that we being to realize how important it is we manage what we read, watch and listen to.

All of us have precious mental real estate, and whatever we are absorbing gets space in our brains. We can seek peace from Him instead of our Instagram. We can find joy in His word instead of Netflix. We can find His truth in the stories and wisdom of others instead of the news.

So Young Adults, let’s being to take notes on our thought life, let’s start analyzing who or what owns the most real estate in our brains right now, and let’s begin to give God the best listings on the block.
