DAY 75 - PERSISTENT PURSUIT

ANDREW MATRONE, YA MINISTRY LEAD

“Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who SEEK you.” Psalm 4:2

Have you ever wanted something so badly, you would do anything to get it? When we REALLY want something, we will go to great lengths to make it happen! For instance: If you want that promotion, you’ll do the internship… butter up the right people… work extra hours. If you want that trip, you’ll take extra shifts… get your side hustle on… you’ll eat ramen every night! If you want that girl, you’ll do all sorts of dumb stuff… dress differently… you’ll even buy a new car to impress!

WHEN WE REALLY WANT OR DESIRE SOMETHING… WE WILL BE PERSISTENT IN OUR PURSUIT UNTIL WE GET WHAT IT IS WE SET OUR MINDS ON.

HERE’S THE PROBLEM… We live in such an instant gratification world, that what happens when we feel any adversity in that pursuit? We lose heart, get irritated, bored… We lose interest and eventually move on.

I wonder if there are any of you reading this right now and when it comes to your relationship with Christ, YOU’VE FACED A LITTLE BIT OF ADVERSITY, you’ve gotten frustrated or have lost heart and instead of staying persistent in your pursuit of him… you’ve become passive in your pursuit. Your relationship with God has become a lot of sitting, wishing, and waiting.

Many people reading this need a word… a calling… a healing. Can I be honest though??? It’s not going to come by you sitting waiting for something to happen! All throughout scripture there is a level of seeking that provokes a response from God. Let me give you a few examples…

Psalm 34:10 “The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who SEEK the LORD lack no good thing.”

Psalm 37:4 “SEEK your happiness in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart”

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and SEEK my face, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.”

Jeremiah 29:13 “You will SEEK me and find me when you SEEK me with all your heart.”
Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask and it will be given to you; SEEK and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who SEEKS finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Matthew 6:33 “SEEK first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you.”

Have I proved my point… :)

Scripture calls us to SEEK… ASK… KNOCK… Nothing passive about this.

HERE IS WHY WE SEEK GOD:

  1. The more you seek him… The more you understand his heart for you.

  2. The more you seek him… The more you understand your need for him.

  3. The more you seek him… The more you know him… And the more you know him… The more intimate you become with him…

JUST REMEMBER… we seek God because he already sought us when he sent Jesus to this earth to be the redemption of our sins and through him, we can have a new life, not only on this earth but for eternity in heaven! Luke 19:10… “For the Son of Man came to SEEK and save the lost.”

Don’t sit back and wait for God to move today -- stand up, lean in, and seek him!
