DAY 81 - SILENCE THE NOISE

ANDREW MATRONE, YA MINISTRY LEAD

“For God alone my soul waits in silence” Psalm 62:1

Are you distracted easily? If you said yes, I feel your pain. As I sit here writing this, I’m fighting off about a hundred distractions and have lost about 99 of those battles. If you feel distracted like me, we’re not alone. A few years ago, Forbes Magazine wrote an article calling our generation (young millennials; older Gen-Z) the most distracted generation ever. We are a generation that has a short attention span and is easily distracted. A recent study done by Kings University found that we tap, swipe, or click our phones on average 2,617 times per day. That’s wild...

We live in a world that is begging for your attention and your headspace. We are constantly getting notifications from apps that are reminding us that they are still there. Everyone and everything is fighting for your attention. It’s overwhelming.

This has to affect our relationship with God, wouldn’t you agree? How many times have you tried to pray or read your Word only to find yourself doing something completely different within minutes (if not seconds) of picking up your Bible? So many things interfere with our time with God.

Maybe you’re in a season where you feel like you’re not hearing from God or feel nothing when you pray, but when was the last time you walked away from your phone or other distractions and fully engaged with God? Not just your time, but your mind and your soul. We have the power to silence the world around us. We have the power to delete an app… We have the ability to “slide to power off” our phone.

What I love about Psalm 62:1 is David (who had plenty of distractions), said his soul “WAITS IN SILENCE.” In other words, he quieted his soul, pushed away distraction, and waited for God in silence.

What would happen if right now you waited for God in silence? You cleared your mind, you removed distractions and you sat and listened. Here’s the reality: God is speaking to you and me, but we have to listen. If you want to be distracted from work, go for it, but don’t let what is happening in this world distract you from the voice of God.

This world can wait… Hearing what God is trying to speak to you, can’t.

Love y’all! Praying for you today!
